《Meat1 》《Meat 2》are among the print series including six works which Kohei Nawa created for the first time at the Print Studio Nomart Editions in Gallery Nomart.
For two of the works ,《Hair》and《Chip》, actual hair and chips were laid on the exposure machine directly for the plate-making. 《Meat 1》and《Meat 2》are the works that the artist arranged the slices of beef tongue on the scanner, printed the image on a inkjet printer, and printed the silkscreen drawing on the top of it by using the transparent color. Both works have in common the use of the actual objects for the plate-making. In addition, including the two works 《Drawing1》and《Drawing 2》, which were purely hand drawn on the silkscreen printing film by the artist, the six works were related to each other and integrated on one theme of “Physical Tactility” despite the different methods they used, and linked to Kohei Nawa’s later creation since then.
One thing should be noted that, unlike other 4 works, 《Meat1 》and 《Meat 2》are officially on sale for the first time in 2021, 20 years after its creation. The works are rare and the balance between the form and the transparent ink in the works is beautiful, which is reminiscent of his later creation ” Torso”.
